Reavers! A Wolves Upon the Coast Campaign

Boasting for Social Standing

In Reavers we have a series of 3 rules that help moderate how players boast.

  1. Each boast must be more impressive then the last.

  2. The boasters fellow players decide if a boast is more impressive and if it is successful, failed or shirked.

  3. A PC must pay upkeep based on the number of boasts they have or nobody will believe they are truly this legendary person and thus they lose the benefits of the boasts.

I then have the rule that boasts past the 5th make you a regionally known figure. You will start to enter a town and people will treat you with fear, respect, hate, or love based on your past boasts.

As an example the PC Druisten recently succeeded in his 6th boast to defeat a mighty Norse warrior in a duel in front of the Prince of Ergryng. This has left his name ringing throughout the halls of everywhere that speaks Brythonic or Norse. Those who speak Norse likely hear how he resorted to trickery slamming a vase into the head of the noble Skaldr in order to gain an upper hand while those who speak Brythonic will hear tales about how he stood there facing off against the armored slaver and struck down the proud warrior in a duel to last the ages.

Regardless at this point he will be known to any but the secluded and his legend will impact his life.

Currently only 3 PCs have reached this level. Most get retired or killed before this point.

Lirann who is Lord of Dorbog and silenced the Screaming Rock. Is friend with the Druids and hated by the church in Ruislip.

Shepherd The Tongue of Onthloug- he claimed the tongue of Cosso the horse. He is beloved of Onthloug and hated by the nation of Fortu who fears his ways of stealing mens tongues.

Druisten Chainbreaker who slew the slaver captain Skaldr. Is celebrated as a warrior by Brythons and slurred as a cheat by Norsemen.
